The majority of bloggers don't know any HTML - which is fine, you don't really need to know any since most blog engines work in the same way as Word does eg. if you want a word to be in bold, you just highlight it and click on the 'B' button. But there are times when a little HTML can be really useful.
For example, you want to include a link in your blog entry to another site, but you don't want that link to take people away from your site. You see, unless you place an additional command in the link 'mark up' code, anyone clicking on a link will leave your site and go to the new one. I am now going to teach you how to get round that in plain English and a few pictures to help!

A permalink is the specific web address for a post on a blog.
If you look down to the bottom of this post, you will see the word Permalink as a link... that's it, right after the date this entry was posted and the 'category' it appears in. Now if you are reading this soon after it was published, or after clicking on the Blogging Basics category link, then chances are it appears as just one of several posts on the page.

What is 'Link-Baiting' I hear you ask?
Well, I have to admit, until recently I'd never heard that particular phrase - but a quick read of the an article by Christopher Kyalo reveals that it refers to the practice of ensuring that links contained in your articles (which will appear on either content sites or other people's blogs) actually result in people clicking through the links to land on your web- or blogsite.
